With a swarm of fancy masks engulfing the market with their charcoal-chocolate-caviar concoctions, it's almost impossible to pick a simple and effective mask for everyday use. Living Nature's Manuka Honey Face Mask does just that with its all-natural, gel-like-serum, sans the fancy frills. Filled in a plain, semi-circle squeezy tube is a transparent non-sticky gel that can be slapped onto the face and neck with fingers. The skin drinks it up like nectar so you can carry on your chores without the worry of it dribbling over your neck like with the bubble face masks. This gel mask is my new quick-fix for when skin feels bone dry or lacks lustre. Harakeke Flax (Aloe vera like plant gel) and active Manuka Honey from New Zealand, provide an instant moisture boost in just about 20 minutes. Living Nature gets extra points for creating an uber-comfortable mask that is easily absorbed and invisible when worn. It works wonders in the soothing department, making it perfect for sun-baked, irritated skin during scorching summers (insert witty British Summer joke). Pop it on two-three times a week and voila! Smooth, hydrated skin is ready to go. The only downside is the slightly pungent smell which is a small price to pay for having all natural ingredients. However, the smell seems to dissipate a minute after application. Definitely worth a try if you dislike experimental, thick gooey masks doing the IG rounds currently.

Essence Cosmetics instantly reminds me of brands like Cover Girl and MUA that are easy on the wallet yet don't compromise with colour payoff and seasonal offerings. Great to experiment with or to present to a teenager who is just getting into makeup! The lip colours are super fun to play around with. The Lip Gloss in Red is packed with pigment and has a lovely glossy finish to it. Perfect for when you want to amp up the glamour and go all out. Hell, I'd pair it with generous coatings of mascara and a graphic liner to take it to the 'pin-up' level. The lipstick quite innovatively is called 'Fade your shade'. On applying individually, it's a vampy oxblood kind of a shade however when applied on top of lip colours from the same family, it works cleverly at giving the edges a slept it, smudged-out, gradient effect. Pretty neat!

The sister got this baby from Space NK years ago and we just decided to let it sit in its velvety case and gather dust while we ummed and aahed on using it. Fast forward to a month ago, it has emerged as a 'must use' when shopping our stash. The formula banks on being super creamy and drying to a wet look. It has Pomegranate Sterols, to amp up the hydration levels as well as Vitamins A, E and peppermint oil for the added nourishment. The emollient formula is satin-like to apply but I find it works best when applied with a lip brush for better control. For mid-day touch-up's, I dab it on the centre of the lips and spread it out evenly to the corners. The key is not to go crazy with the straight-from-the-bullet application. The finish is opulent as promised and as glamorous as you would see on the silver screen. It's one of those formulas where it's more for red carpet photos and to elegantly wine and dine than gorge on breakfast scones and guzzle down creamy lattes. If you wear it carefully, the product lasts pretty long without much disruption.
