MAC Essentials - The Family Favorites Edition

What better way to express one’s brand loyalty than an exuberant display of empty containers!? As I prepared for my next back to MAC visit, I rampaged through everyone’s makeup drawers in my house. So in case you are looking to buy a MAC concealer or foundation, here is a breakdown of my family’s favourites:

MAC Pro Longwear Concealer – With three empty bottles in varying shades, this one takes the prize for the best heavy duty camouflage concealer. It’s thick, highly pigmented and perfect for correcting discoloration and tough dark circles in Asian skin. It does tend to crease a little over hours, but then again, no concealer can deliver complete non-creasing, to be honest. This tiny 9ml vial seems to last at least 3-4 months as you only need a dot of this powerful potion to keep your peepers in check.

MAC Select Cover-Up – This one’s a must-have for mild dark circles and blemishes. A lighter liquid that is great for covering and brightening patches to create an even skin tone. I love MAC for their natural shades that blend effortlessly with the foundation to brighten and conceal. Dab a bit of this brightening concealer once you have covered pigmentation with Pro Longwear for a long lasting flawless cover-up. I even swam with it on multiple occasions and it does not budge. Plus, this tiny 10ml tube fits in the most diminutive purse for emergency top-ups.

MAC Studio Fix Powder – A medium coverage matte finish compact powder in a sturdy travel-friendly case. Studio fix is for those who want more than just a transparent setting powder. This comes in dozens of shades and provides a good amount of coverage while setting the makeup underneath. I prefer to dab this on my oily t-zone to avoid a shiny nose. It works like a dream and photographs even better.

MAC Studio Conceal And Correct Duo – This new addition is my sister’s favourite. You use the orange side to neutralise deep dark patches under the eye, while the adjacent brighter side tones it down to adapt to your skin colour. The result is a customised concealer for your dark patches. If you have trouble finding the right shade of concealer, give this corrector duo a try.

MAC Studio Face And Body Foundation - Since I am on my umpteenth bottle, this water resistant foundation deserves a mention. A super light liquid which adapts to the skin and sets to give a light translucent coverage. Just apply it using fingers and wait for it to set to a satin finish. I even unnerved my wedding makeup artist by asking her to apply this on my face on my big day. And it made a beautiful dewy non-cakey base. If thick opaque foundations do not suit your sensitive skin, definitely get their small 50ml bottle to try.
