We all remember Dr Lipp, the ultimate cure for chapped lips! Something the entire blogosphere was obsessed with last year. For those who haven't heard of it, its a little tube filled with thick medical grade lanolin - a fatty substance found on sheep skin. Originally made for chapped nipples but overtime gained stardom as an instant treatment for the perfect pucker, it's become a staple in all MUA kits. I remember being super excited with my first Dr Lipp from SpaceNK. Its 100% natural, potent, fragrance free and does the job perfectly!
Now, there seems to be an Australian counterpart with pretty much exactly the same ingredients. Meet Lanolips and their latest Fruities collection. Its 100% natural with lanolin and vitamin E, and comes in three fruity flavours; Apple, Peach and Strawberry. After trying the Peach lanolips for a few days, here's the comparison.
Lanolips comes out slightly coloured compared to Dr Lipp which is transparent. The texture is pretty much the same but Lanolips is more fluid in texture than Dr Lipp, in terms of its ability to move on the lips. Lanolips gets absorbed after a while and lips feel naturally moisturised, making it a good base for lipstick application, glossy or matte. Dr Lipp on the other hand is more potent as a treatment and the layer stays on the lips for a while, hence a bedside staple. Lanolips Fruities Collection has a faint, pleasant scent but no taste which is great.
Overall, Lanolips fruities collection is a good product to throw in you bag and for travel. The only obvious difference between this and Dr Lipp is the price and availability. Lanolips is stocked at regular supermakets like Waitrose and Boots where as Dr Lips is only available at niche boutiques like SpaceNK or online. Honestly, this one is a bit of a tie! I would reserve Dr Lipp as a potent night treatment and keep Lanolips in the handbag for chapped lip emergencies.
