In support of breast cancer awareness month. All the money raised by Avon is used to provide specialist nurses and emotional support to the brave women battling and recovering from breast cancer. So all you makeup hoarders out there, get yourself a few new different shades of pink for Autumn/Winter whilst donating to a noble case. Available this October from Avon is the Crusade Bracelet for £5 and a Limited Edition Breast Cancer Awareness Month Gift Set for £8. The latter comes with a nail lacquer in shade viva pink, a lipgloss in renewing rose and an uber cute compact mirror. My favourite is the adorable heart shaped mirror which has made its way into my makeup bag.
Breast cancer affects around 50k women each year in UK with 85% people surviving breast cancer for over 5 years. Albeit that is only possible with early detection and timely treatment.
When I was in sixth form, I remember a friend being paranoid about a lump in her breast but being too reluctant to get it tested. Her stress levels spiked in anticipation and it went on for a while until she discussed the issue with the head teacher who happened to be an ex-nurse. The head teacher heard her out and checked her for any signs of lumps. She was clear of any symptoms and was finally relaxed. The moral of the story is that awareness and yearly check-ups should not be avoided specially by younger women. If statistics are to be believed, a staggering 1 in 8 women in UK will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. Donating to a cause that is likely to affect the lives of those around us is like taking preventative measures to safeguard our society. Take your pick from the various beauty and fashion collaborations out there and play your part.
