Urban Decay Naked Illuminated Shimmering Powder in Aura

Whenever Urban Decay comes out with a new product, it's always received gloriously by bloggers. Considering their flawless reputation with new launches, I wasn't expecting anything less. Their Naked Illuminated Shimmer Powder comes in two shades, Luminous and Aura. I have Aura, which is a rose-gold version with soft cool undertones to it. I quite like it as the majority of highlighters in my collection have a strong golden undertone to it. As my complexion is olive toned, a cool highlighter like this works quite well as combating the sallowness in my skin tone and making it look flushed and healthier.

Naked Illuminated in Aura is not your subtle, barely-there kind of glow getter. It's bold, it's in-your-face and it's unapologetic about that. Although the powder is finely milled and smooth to apply, it contains chunky glitter throughout which is what gives it it's oomph. I personally find that it catches light beautifully and photographs really well. If you want more of a subtle finish, then go over the applied highlighter with a fan brush and it will trap all the chunky glitter and leave you with a beautiful smooth finish.

Also, it really depends on the base you use it on. If you use it on something like MAC Face & Body or Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation, the effect is simply beautiful. It almost creates a wet effect on a dewy base. I would avoid using it on top of matte foundations as the particles in the highlighter and the particles of the foundation don't marry as well.

On the whole, if you're looking for a new highlighter that shows up brightly in photographers and can be spotted on your cheeks from a distance, get your hands on it.
