Skin Foods

Did you know that it’s possible to eat your way to better skin – well, to a degree anyway. The old adage, ‘you are what you eat’, is one that rings true when it comes to creating glowing clear skin and we’ve compiled a list of great foods that will help you achieve this.

These foods, when added to a diet consistently and over a period of time will help you improve your skin’s quality and look great. So, what are the foods that will help you achieve a healthy glow this autumn?  

Peppermint
A steaming cup of peppermint tastes great smells great and it’s also great for you too. The healing properties of peppermint are physical and also mental and it aids digestion, as well as cuts down on stress. Both of these are causes of skin issues and swapping normal tea for a cup of this is a great way to help your skin and more besides.

Nuts
One of the main reasons a lot of us have skin issues is down to deficiency in minerals and many of these minerals are found in nuts. Pumpkin seeds and Brazil nuts are two of the very best as they are full of what’s known as selenium, this helps to increase white blood cell counts – this prevents infection. These nuts also have plenty of other great nutrients too – copper, magnesium, manganese and Vitamin E are just some of the rich additions that help skin that are common in these nuts.

Tomato
Yes, the humble tomato is a great addition in the fight against bad skin according to Skin Care by Alana. Filled with vitamin C the tomato is filled with lycopene which stimulates the red colour of the skin in this fruit and also helps brighten our own skin too.

Water
Yes, good old simple water – it’s probably the most important single thing we can consume if we’re hoping for better skin. Water helps flush out toxins and also improves the way we feel by helping us stay more mentally alert. In addition, it replenishes cells in the body and helps skin stay hydrated. All in all, it’s the single most important factor in great skin. So, get at least 8 glasses a day.

Fennel
Liquorice flavoured and a root vegetable, fennel is great for digestion and also for reducing the amount of swelling in the body. It flushes out toxins too, which of course helps with your skin and hair and the way they appear. It comes in tea form, as well as in root form, which tastes great with a Sunday dinner – we promise.

Red Grapes
Red grapes are filled with antioxidants and it’s thought that these help with a number of skin conditions including psoriasis and eczema. In addition, red grapes are also a natural antihistamine and can help control allergic reactions. Why not add a few to you salad, or eat some with soft cheese – they’ve a whole host of benefits.

Adding these foods to your diet in small amounts over a long period of time can really help ensure your skin looks great.
