Urban Decay Naked Palette - Overhyped or Holy Grail?

I don't quite like joining in the hype or getting products that every one's getting at that point in time. For some reason, I feel there is no fun in doing that. I either like to be one of the first few people to get it, or make a purchase when the hype has all cooled down.

I remember I was so excited when the Urban Decay's Naked palette initially came out. Then I decided I already had a tonne of eye shadows lying around which I needed to use up. However recently I received this as a Birthday present(not so surprisingly) and was delighted!

Here it is in its full glory.

Besides the fact that the velvet attracts all the fluff flying around in the house, this is the best packaging I have come across. It is compact, sturdy, convenient and most importantly, uber chic.

It comes with 12 eye shadows out of which only two of them are matte, the rest being shimmery or glittery. However, the shimmery shades in this palette are pretty different from the usual shimmery shades we come across.

These are not frosty and do not have a foil-like tacky finish to them. You know how some of even MAC eye shadows have this not-so-pretty frosty finish, which makes them inappropriate for daytime? None of the shades in this palette are like that, making it totally office appropriate.

As for pigmentation, they are just like MAC eye shadows if not better. Regarding quality, I feel these beat MAC by a few points as they are so soft and easily blendable. They are fool-proof - you just cannot go wrong.

I literally dust on some colour on the lids with a large fluffy brush, finish off with a crease colour and I am good to go. The shadows last all day too when applied over the primer potion it comes with.

I thought I'll swatch a few of my favourites for you. Here we have Smog, Darkhorse, Sin, Sidecar, Toasted and Gunmetal.

I know it does not have a typical black shade, however there a few darker shades here which make fantastic crease or liner colours.

The palette is the Holy Grail of eye shadows for me, because unlike the other boring neutrals I have, this one's just more peppy and makes neutrals seem fun. You can create anything from a barely there look, a beach bronze look to a sultry going-out look, the possibilities are endless.

It is not bulky unlike other Urban Decay palettes and will be the only thing you'll need to carry whilst travelling, regardless of your eye shadow likes or dislikes.

Plus, 12 eye shadows, an eye shadow brush and a mini primer potion is in fact dirt cheap for £30, coming from a brand like Urban Decay.

Have you got this palette? If not, then why?

I have and LOVE this palette. I love UD shadows so it only made sense for me to have this plus there are so many looks that can be done with these colors. I bought mine when it came with a double sided eyeliner and that sealed the deal for me. I love the whiskey eyeline...now if I could just purchase that liner alone!!! ;)

@prettyinpink - I really wouldn't mind if this would have come with a liner. The brush is pretty crap to be honest :S So tempted to try their liners now.!

I really want this palette - I am going through an eyeshadow craze at the moment - I just bought 4 Mac eyeshadows.. however.. everytime I want to buy the palette, it's always sold out! I've got 2 Urban Decay palettes at home and some of them have these colours, therefore it might be a waste of money if I do buy it! The best thing would be having all the neutral colours in one palette! xx

I'm not an eyeshadow lover at all but I had to have this palette! Absolutely LOVE it! Although I wish there were more matte colours in there but nevermind! Definitely a must have! Mine came with brush too.. I was glad it did cause I already have the eyeliner that was in the palettes before! xxx

@roshas - try and grab a bargain on ebay hun :) These are much better in value compared to MAC imo.

@Sriya - I can't stand the brush it comes with :( I agree, there could have been more matte shades. Maybe UD should do an 'all-matte' palette in the future :D

This palette is def my HG e/s palette too. I'm so glad I was able to get one. Like u, I also got it a couple of month after the hype died down. I use it pretty much every other day.

Sin, Naked, Twice Baked and Smog are my most used

Argh such a gorgeous selection of wearable colours! If I had the money I'd buy it in a heartbeat, but it's just not in my price range at the moment. Might ask for it as a birthday present...

Great review! x

I havent bought this item and I don't plan to either, I just feel that I have dupes for most of the eyeshadows, if not all of them. I have some 88 Palettes, some Too Faced Palettes, NYX eyeshadows, and some ELf Too, I heard NYX made a natural palette similiar to this, at a much affordable price, but I want to finish all my eyeshadows first before buying another palette because they're just stacking up. but I think it'll be a great gift to a friend who is just starting with make-up.

I didn't arrive at this one til after the hype when it was nigh on impossible to get hold off, thanks to Leanne at OCD beauty blog my OH bought it online from Debenhams when it appeared very briefly at the end of last year and I have used it quite literally every time I have worn make up since. As you say there are so many different things you can do and if I am really short of time I just tight line upper lashes with dark horse and whack on some mascara, job done! Well worth every penny. Great review btw!

I love this palette! I used it all week on vacation and it was so convenient. The brush that it came with was useless to me! I hate the velvet, it feels so weird! Love the eye shadows though! A few are super glittery so you have to be careful of the fall out underneath. It can get a bit messy:(

I bought this a while ago and love it, colours are amazing! I never had any neutral eyeshadows just really bright colours so this is perfect! x

Also noticed yours came with a brush? mine came with a double ended 24/7 liner, wonder if they've changed it!
