By now I know how to spot fake Mac brushes, eyeshadows and pigments coz thats the extent to which fake Mac is made and sold till now. However, this was the first time I encountered a fake Mac foundation, namely our most loved, Studio Fix Powder! How happy I was finding a £8 bargain on this product on ebay untill I discovered that its a very poor gimmick.
The picure on the ebay listing did not give it away as it only showed the top part of the product as seen in the first pic which almost looks identical. However when it arrived, it was substantially smaller than the actual product in size. The bottom of the product is very different too & says M150 instead of NC30 for some very bizarre reason. I mean atleast do your research guys before manufacturing such gimmicks! Once opened, the product had some very cheapy pink talcum powder pressed in the pan which confirmed my doubt as to its authenticity.
Yes I have received fake Mac brushes from ebay in the past but have compromised with it as the quality aint that bad (I know, how lame of me! lol) but 'pink powder' is just the limit! Due to ebay's amazing buyer protection policies, I got an instant refund Thank God!
Overall, lesson learnt! Not buying any more Mac from ebay.(Well atleast not foundations :p)
Have you ever been conned for Mac?
I have just bought 3 blushes and a lipglass off ebay and as im new too mac (never bought anything from there before) how do i know if there fake?!
XO
Awww hunny :( at least you got a refund though. Ebay is so full of MAC fakes, it needs sorting out.
xxxx
Always remember to see if the user has written in their product description "Authenticity guaranteed". If it's not written, send them an email and ask. If it's just not marked at all, do not assume that it's authentic. It has to be marked. If they tell you it is and upon receiving the product, you realize it's not, complain to eBay, you can get your money back :) Product description is your best friend, everything on there has to be exactly what you get and see. If it's not, the user selling is "false advertising" and be careful of their products.
Phew, good you got your money back. I'm so chicken to get on ebay, as I wouldn't know if I got a fake one, lol
@Hannahbabeyxo - I think it would be best to go to Mac store or counter whenever you have time and compare products for yourself for authenticity or even better ask a helpful MA about it =) Also the poor pigmentation should give it away!
@Dez - thats so true gurlie! The product description never said authenticity guaranteed! I should be more careful
yikes, theres too many fake m.a.c. items on ebay :/ often labeled as authentic too
ah thats awful !!! it sucks that there are so many fakers out there or else i would order from there - way to sketchy!
you should photograph these in more detail and possibly post them to the counterfeit mac section of specktra.net , that way others can spot, and be made aware of these fake studio fix powders. also maybe post the name of the ebay user you bought them off?
hey that's bad...at least u got yr refund girl! It amazes me how many Mac dupes there are...esp in Bangkok u'll find exact copies of every high end cosmetic product, which come fr China. We just have to be extra careful when buying fr a place like Ebay. I'm scared now coz i just ordered some things fr there :( not Mac tho :)
♥XX♥
so lucky you got a refund!! omg that's scary... yeah i don't think i'd be getting mac from ebay, lol... ebay is good but dangerous at the same time.. so many fakes!! i have the fake mac brushes and yeah, they're ok but i wish i knew back then, but lesson's learnt!! hehe..

I'm so sorry to hear this! I've never bought anything off ebay for this reason. I'm glad you got a refund though!
OMG... thats so true... thats why I avoid buy MAC makeup from Ebay cause they have so much fake MAC
lol u shouldve known that for 8quid it was gonna be a fake product. with all the wasting your money that you do and with the probability of 80% of the items being fake, you'd think you'd learn from it? clearly not. save your money and invest wisely or do more research into cheaper alternatives that are less likely to be copied and sold as authentic.
haww what a bummer right?! iv never purchased anything off of ebay partly because i dont trust it and i havnt even got paypal yet - (yes! hard to believe!)
thanks for this, i am defo never buying mac from ebay!
In my opinion, Ive found that ebay MAC prices are no better than, and often, higher, than the MAC prices at the counter. So is there something I'm missing? Why do people go to Ebay for MAC?
@Innerbelle - I mean seriousy there is nothing wrong with ebay! I cant expect it to monitor every fake MAC item around lol. I guess I should be more alert lol. but yea a bummer for sure :s hehe..However I have found some amazing bargains on original Mac products on ebay too! So its a two way lane I guess. and you need to get paypay gurrl!!
@Ze German: Maria and Clearly Beautiful Blog - Yes I did mention that most of the times I come accross fakes but in no way did I mean to condemn ebay for that ladies. I only have my makeup collection today coz of ebay! It would be almost impractical to get ALL Mac products at full price for me. and for your information ladies, I have bought original Mac stuff from ebay for a quarter of the original price! So you see there is a point why all this hype for ebay exists lol. I just wanted to let you guys know about the fake mac studio fix's around, thats it.
You are lucky in thhe sense you came out of this sham pretty early girl!, I have never a
purchased any makeup stuff off the EBay! Although a temptation was there initially to buy off the ebay but thank goodness I did a thorough research before entering into the world od Ebay and finally came across various articles on how the fake mac and other branded makeup are filling up the ebay nowadays! If ever I had to buy something from Ebay, it would only be the 120 manly palette as I just adore them! hehe xoxo
Wow..that's so crazy. I'm glad you got your money back though. Unfortunately those scammers are probably making money off of a lot of people...
Ugh, sorry to hear that. It's just so lame of people to make all of these fakes. I mean, they are so off from the originals! Come on, I've seen better boot-leg LVs than that powder! -.-
OH no - I hate it when you get stung by ebay. I remember seeing a ton of fake MAC stuff in the markets in KL - first time I'd ever seen it..it made me realise there's nothing people won't try and replicate. Leave them some stinking feedback,
Thank goodness for ebay's buyer protection policies! I shudder to think if you actually used that crappy piece of junk!
I know buying makeup can get expensive but sometimes its not worth it & this is one of those times. Atleast you got your money back.
